It's all about the bass
There is something immensely satisfying about playing a good bass line. It drives the band, and makes people dance. I currently play in a soul band that focuses on Motown, Funk, and Disco. That means that I don't play my own bass lines, but I play the ones laid down by others.
I don't mind this at all. I get to play the lines played by legends like James Jamerson, Bob Babbitt, Ronnie Baker, Larry Graham, Louis Johnson, Freddy Washington, Donald "Duck" Dunn, and on and on. If I can bring their artistry to life, I'll have done my job. On this page, I'll pay some more attention to them, as well as to their music.
